Unsupervised Seizures
Patients need to be assessed for the following at their initial visit, annually and at times of life transitions.
1
Assess for supervision during seizures, particularly nocturnal supervision and in dangerous environments such as water.
Clinician actions
- Discuss increased risk of SUDEP for those without nocturnal supervision and convulsive seizures.
2
Assess for the role for seizure detection or monitoring devices.
Clinician actions
- Discuss ways the patient may recognize they had a seizure if it was unsupervised and without aura (i.e. gap in time, tongue bite, incontinence, injury without other explanation).
